Description :

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) is a world-class museum located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is the first major museum dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. MOCAA was established in 2017 and is a collaboration between the V&A Waterfront and Jochen Zeitz, a German businessman and art collector. The museum houses over one hundred galleries and 9,500 square meters of exhibition space.

MOCAA seeks to promote the work of African and African diasporic artists and to create a platform for the presentation, research, and sale of contemporary art from Africa. Its exhibitions are a mix of both temporary and permanent displays, and its permanent collection includes works from renowned African artists such as Ibrahim El-Salahi, Yinka Shonibare, and William Kentridge. The museum also houses a number of educational facilities, such as a library, research center, and a conservation lab. It also has an auditorium, which regularly hosts conferences, lectures, and performances. In addition to its collection of artworks, MOCAA also has a sculpture garden, a bookshop, and a café. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 6pm.

Admission is free for citizens of African countries, and tickets are available for purchase online. MOCAA is a unique destination for those interested in contemporary art from Africa. It serves as a platform to showcase the talents of African and African diasporic artists, and to encourage dialogue and understanding. With its diverse programming and education, MOCAA is an invaluable resource for both the local and international art community.
