  • Wilkinson studied school at Harrow and at Exeter College, Oxford.
  • However, he left Oxford in 1818 before earning a degree and joined the army.

    Acheivements / Contributions  :

    • Wilkinson, who first went to Egypt in 1822. He his occasionally referred to as the Father of British Egyptology.
    • John Gardner Wilkinson visited to Egypt in 1842, contributing an article entitled "Survey of the Valley of the Natron Lakes" to the Journal of the Geographical Society in 1843.
    • In 1843 he witnessed his publication of a revised and enlarged edition of his Topography, entitled Moslem Egypt and Thebes.
