  • Alfonso Caso Andrade was an archaeologist who made major contributions to knowledge of the cultures Mesoamerican pre-Columbian, especially on the area of Oaxaca.

  • In 1939,he founded the Istituto Nacional de Antropologia y Historia and the School of Anthropolgy.

  • He was instrumental in the discovery of the prehispanic city of Monte Alban and Tomb Seven of Monte Alban,the wealthiest have been discovered in Mexico in terms of gold objects are concerned.

  • He also deciphered Mixtec codices.
