Description :

Melrose House is a historical house located in Pretoria, South Africa. It was built in 1886 by the then-president of the South African Republic, Marthinus Wessel Pretorius, as a gift to his son, G.J.P.J. Pretorius. It was the first house to be built with electricity and running water, and was the first Victorian building in the city. The house is now a museum, and is a popular tourist attraction. It is filled with antique furniture, artworks and other objects, providing a glimpse into the lifestyle of the people who lived there in the late 19th century.

There are also many artifacts from the Boer War. The gardens of the house feature a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers, and the house itself is surrounded by a white picket fence. Visitors to the house can take a guided tour, which includes a visit to the servants’ quarters, the kitchen, the bedrooms and the drawing room. The tour also includes a visit to the adjacent coach house, where the first car in Pretoria was kept. Additionally, Melrose House is the venue for special events such as weddings and parties, making it a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.
