The organization was founded in 1933 and was the called Museum of Flemish Literature .
The collection was based on the Conscience-archive and the Hugo Verriest legacy.
After World War II, in 1945 the name was changed into its present name, Archie en Museum voor het Vlaamse Cultural Life.
