  • The Yucatec Maya dialogue is a Mayan language spoken in the Yucatán Peninsula, northern Belize and parts of Guatemala Yucatec Maya language spoken in the movie was translated by Maya professor Hilario Chi Canul. She was also the dialogue coach during production
  • The Mayans believed that cenotes were portals to the underworld and made human sacrifices to the water God Chacc. But as in the movie the sacrifices are made to the Sun God Kukulkan. Kukulkan is a serpent like deity predominantly seen near the cenotes of the Chicken Itza temple.
    Archaeologist found 43 individual remains during the excavations at Sacred Cenote, Chicken Itza, and most of them were below 20 years.
  • Mayans though considered to be the highly sophisticated and to possess an immense knowledge of medicine, science, archaeology and engineering. The Acapolypto tell us the story of their brutality on the other hand.
  • As the name "Seven", the wife of Jaguar Paw denotes, the tattoo in her left arm is the numeral representation of number seven by the Mayans.

Movie Walkthrough and Review

Mixed with a storyline to suit a few facts of the Mayan civilization. The movie name - Apocalypto depicts the journey of a Mesoamerican who escapes human sacrifices to save his family when his village is destructed by other powerful tribes. In the movie, the hero (Jaguar Paw) and his friends are captured and taken to the Maya city to be made as human sacrifices to the Sun God, KuKulKan, after several feats and hurdles, Jaguar Paw is the only person to escape and re-join his family... they move deeper into the forest depicting to "seek a new beginning".
