Harar is situated in the eastern part of the country on a plateau with deep gorges covered by deserts and savannah.
Between the 13th and 16th centuries,the walls around this sacred Muslim city were constructed.
It is considered to be the fourth holiest city of Islam.It has 82 mosques and three of which date from the 10th century. It has 102 shrines, but the townhouses with their exceptional interior architecture has the most spectacular part of it's cultural heritage.
