Description :

Iziko SA Museum is an institution in South Africa responsible for the collection, preservation, documentation and display of objects of scientific and cultural value. It is the country’s largest cultural institution and the only one to hold all 11 official South African national collections. Founded in 1977, the museum is dedicated to developing and promoting knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the diverse heritage of South Africa and humanity in general. It operates 22 museum sites across the country, including in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth.

Iziko SA Museum is home to a wide range of collections and exhibitions. Its main exhibition space is the Iziko South African Museum and Planetarium, located in Cape Town. This space showcases the country’s rich history and cultural diversity, from the dawn of humanity to the present day. Other spaces include the South African Maritime Museum, the South African National Gallery, the South African Museum of Science and Technology, the Slave Lodge Museum, the Bo-Kaap Museum and the District Six Museum. The museum also offers a range of educational activities, from guided tours to workshops and lectures.
