Description :

Deegawapi is an ancient city in Sri Lanka, located in the North Western Province. It is believed to have been founded by King Dutugamunu in the 2nd century BC. It is believed to have been the capital of the ancient kingdom of Rajarata, and was an important trading centre. The city is now a World Heritage Site and is known for its well-preserved ruins, temples, and monuments. Deegawapi is home to some of the most impressive ruins in Sri Lanka.

The ruins include an impressive palace complex, built by King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century. The palace complex includes a large number of buildings, including a temple, a monastery, and a palace. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and is one of the few surviving examples of a Hindu temple in Sri Lanka. The monastery is home to some of the oldest Buddhist statues in Sri Lanka. The city is also home to some of the most impressive stupas in the country. The largest stupa is said to be the largest in the world.
