He became a member of the British Academy in 1950.

Acheivements / Contributions  :

  • He was the head of the archaeology and anthropology department in 1956 at Disney Professor of Archaeology.
  • He excavated at Star Carr between 1949 and 1951, work which remainder highly important in his understanding of the period.
  • He also wrote general works on world prehistory.
