The first Azilian skeleton was known to be found by Ruth Sawtell Wallis.
She was an american physical anthropologist.
Wallis excavated two Azilian graves at Montardit (Ariege) in the French Pyrenees, and discovered the first Azilian skeletons in France.
In the 1950s, Ruth Wallis conducted fieldwork in collaboration with her husband.
