It has a prominent role as the urban centre of an inland territory assigned to cattle breeding and the sugar industry.
It covers an area of 54 ha which contains an exceptional example of a traditional urban settlement.
In terms of urban layout,the Spanish colonizers followed medieval European influences and by their masons and construction masters, traditional building techniques brought to the Americas.
The property shows the influence of number of styles through the ages: neoclassical, eclectic, Art Deco, Neo-colonial as well as some Art Nouveau and rationalism.
