Its under the influence of the Parthian Empire.Also it is the capital of the first Arab Kingdom.In A.D. 116 it was defeated by the Romans ans its thick walls were reinforced by towers.
The remains of the city, particularly the temples of Hellenistic and Roman architecture blend with Eastern decorative features, attest to the greatness of its civilization.
