The Atlantic Forest South-East Reserves contain some of the best and most extensive examples of Atlantic forest in the states of Paraná and São Paulo, in Brazil The site displays the biological richness and evolutionary history of the few remaining areas of Atlantic forest of southeast Brazil and the 25 protected areas that make up the site. The mountains are covered by dense forests which are down to wetlands and coastal islands which is isolated with mountains and dunes. The area comprises a rich natural environment of great scenic beauty. In the southeast region of Brazil, the Atlantic Forests (Southeast) contains the best and largest remaining examples of Atlantic forest . The area is also exceptionally diverse with high numbers of rare and endemic species. With its “mountains to the sea” attitudinal gradient, its estuary, wild rivers, karst and numerous waterfalls, the site also has exceptional scenic values.
