The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)
Maintenance of ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains of national importance is the prime concern of the ASI. Besides it regulate all archaeological activities in the country as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.

purpose of this session is to take stock of theoretical issues in Indian archaeology. Indian archaeology has come a long-way, since the 18th century, when those such as William Jones, James Prinsep and Charles Wilkins, initiated the Asiatic Society of Bengal.

Archaeological studies in India
